Art Installation By Yasuaki Onishi Makes Visible The Invisible
This wonderful art installation by Japanese artist Yasuaki Onishi is called ‘Reverse Of Volume’ and effectively makes visible the invisible. He first began making these art works in 2009 by employing a technique that he calls ‘casting the invisible’.
He drapes a large semi – translucent sheet over randomly stacked cardboard boxes that function as a physical skeletal model. Then, using long sinewy strands of black – dyed hot glue, he adheres the plastic sheet to the ceiling at a mutitude of points. From there he removes the boxes from below and the plastic sheet remains – suspended and molded to various impressions of negative space.
The negative space becomes positive, almost physical.
