Why did we set up the Trash Culture Revue?
When I set up the mutantspace arts skills exchange I had to prove to myself that it worked. Otherwise there was no point. I had to prove that a practical, alternative, online gift economy could produce offline, real world, real time arts events and projects. So, in early 2009 I sent out an email to all our members asking if anyone would be interested in producing a small arts festival. I got a great response and in June 2009 we produced our 1st mutantspace arts festival, in Cork, Ireland. It was a great success. It worked. Our small, fledgling, gift economy and skills exchange was functioning, producing and creating new spaces for people from all over the country to play in.
In November 2009 we produced another arts festival. In 2010 a few members suggested that the series be defined, be given a name and so it was that the The Trash Culture Revue came into being.
