Virginia Echeverria Whipple‘s collages are rather different from the vintage, found image, cut-ups you’d normally associate with collage. Like many of my favourite collage artists she eschews digital tools preferring the old fashioned paper, scissors and glue.

What makes her work stand out however is her abstraction of the image – she seems to see colourful patterns and negative space in everything – which she does by adding a new design dimension to her original images; simple geometric shapes and colours that lift the whole composition onto a different plane. .
