Victo Ngai‘s illustrations are mind blowing, fantastical works of art. I’m not a fan of fantasy or sci-fi style illustrations, they usually bore me, they’re simply not my thing. But these wonderful pictures are extraordinary with their fusion of Chinese aesthetics and a European sensibility.

Ngai’s work is firmly rooted in her upbringing; an expat brought up under British colonial rule in Hong Kong – just like myself – and now living in New York. This clash of East and West is a profound one and is clearly illustrated in her work. Infact her nickname ‘Victo’ is derived from Victoria peak, the very place my family lived for over 27 years.
