Ascii Street View from teehan+lax labs – a canadian design studio – is an amazing program that creates digital paintings by combining a sequence of algorithms which animate virtual maps from google and translates them into images produced by computer code.
Basically you go to their Ascii Street View page and type in a place in the google map search bar. Almost immediately an image comes up on your screen of the place ‘painted’ in computer code. Pretty cool. Pretty fun. And I’m sure there are more serious applications for it down the road. Infact their video goes into it alot more.
Small warning in advance. You’ll need Chrome, Firefox 8+, or another browser that supports CORS WebGL textures.
