animated short The Birth, Life, and Death of a Soldier

animated short painted on a hand called The Birth, Life, and Death of a Soldier

You got to love this new animated short by Milan-based animator Virgilio Villoresi who does the entire film on his hand. It tells the story of a soldier, his birth, life and death in a mock fascist way. It reminds me of an incredible Philippe Genty finger puppet show I had the good fortune to see a number of years ago.

This stop motion animation film using over 12,000 laser-cut pieces of construction paper was made for Josh Ritter’s new single ‘Love Is Making It’s Way Back Home’ and it’s fantastic.

A team of nearly twenty artists, editors, directors and product assistants were involved in the project. They started by storyboarding the video, then created a computer animation version of the track before converting the digital graphics into paper cutouts, frame by frame, photographing those 12,000 cutouts and then stitching them together into four minutes of paper animation.

Great Animation Video From Vjsuave Called La Cena

| Film and animation | February 25, 2012

la cena vj suave video

I don;t know much about VJing but I do know what I like and this video by South American duo Vjsuave called ‘La Cena’ i’s wonderful. It’s the result of an artistic reunion between Ygor Marotta from Brazil and Ceci Soloaga from Argentina. The idea started in 2010 when the two of them decided to refresh the Vj scene by combining organic content with digital animation in a constant search of new ways of expression.

New OK Go Music Video Features Over 1,000 Music Instruments Hit By A Moving Vehicle video music

New OK Go Music Video

I found this video by LA band OK Go. It’s fantastically mad and has a ridiculous amount of work put into it. Basically they set up over 1,000 instruments in the middle of a desert and played much of the music by driving a car along a two mile stretch and hitting the instruments through the window of the car:

OK Go set up over 1000 instruments over two miles of desert outside Los Angeles. A Chevy Sonic was outfitted with retractable pneumatic arms designed to play the instruments, and the band recorded this version of Needing/Getting, singing as they played the instrument array with the car. The video took 4 months of preparation and 4 days of shooting and recording. There are no ringers or stand-ins; Damian took stunt driving lessons. Each piano had the lowest octaves tuned to the same note so that they’d play the right note no matter where they were struck.

Beautiful Time Lapse Video Of Yosemite National Park

| Film and animation | January 23, 2012

I’ve always wanted to go to Yosemite National Park and still hope to someday – after this recession perhaps. Anyway I found this time lapse video that really shows off the beauty of the place. The video was produced by two film makers who found each other through Vimeo (my favourite online video site).

Both shared an interest in time – lapse photography and the beauty of Yosemite which resulted in this beautiful video that we all now have the pleasure of watching.
