Description
I started out in the entertainment business in the wardrobe dept. on the Cosby Show and then went on to the research dept. at Children’s Television Workshop (which has since rebranded as the Sesame Workshop.) I finished a BFA in Documentary and Educational Film in 1992, and spent the next 5 years working to keep a roof over my head in New York. I worked in several different styles of production offices i.e.; network TV, documentary film, educational TV and commercial advertising and graphic design. My strengths are really in the cross-breeding of the entertainment industry, transmission operations and web 2.0 interactivity.
I destroyed my first Mac Plus with a kitchen knife in 1990 – to figure out how it was built. I snapped the parts together on my first custom-built PC in 1997. I have a strong natural interest in the Net, IPTV and encoding technologies. I’m an avid gamer and was a beta tester for the ill fated Myst Uru Live for over a year.
I spent 4 years remodeling a derelict house in the south of France and after that about 4 years, 8 hours a day, in front of a PC and an 18Mb b-band connection. I am completely self-taught in Geek 2.0; I designed and built many business and personal websites. I learned how to build and maintain PhP databases (mostly MySQL.) I worked on a campaign with a Viral Video/Info Marketer based in London; and I ran my own small company that specialized in helping northern Europeans who were relocating to southern France run their businesses.
I’ve been in Second Life since 2006; hosting my own weekly live jazz show there for 5 years now. I can build in 3D and code for animations there. I have worked on three different Machinima productions with the award winning group Ill Clan Animation Studios; including the Star Trek spoof that was used at the CES in Vegas in 2007 for Philip Rosedale’s presentation http://news.cnet.com/Media-new-and-old-merge-at-CBS/2100-1041_3-6148866.html
I was raised in Minnesota, and have since lived in Ireland, Scotland and France. My French is good enough for everyone except the French. I’ve been back in Dublin since 2008.
