Ryan Peltier’s Illustrations Are Based In The American Folk Tradition
Ryan Peltier‘s illustrations are strange, primitive, textural and therefore exciting to look at, there’s lots going on, there’s a sense of the macabre in his work. It’s not often you come across work that has a real originality, is as full bodied as his is. What do you think of it? They’re quite old fashioned really which might be explained by his influences. Here’s what he has to say:
I am influenced by American Folk and early American animation like the old Micky Mouse cartoons and also good Disney like 101 Dalmatians, I just really love Jasper, Horace and Cruella. I enjoy things with a dark edge and things that are are enigmatic, you can’t really put your finger on why you love them so much. I love David Hockney and his quirky design sense and i will always love Edward Gorey for his sense of humor and the strange world he conjures up.
