Rick Silva’s ‘En Plein Air’ Series Digitizes Nature
Rick Silva’s ‘En plein air’ series is a cross between the artists two interests; technology and landscape painting. So it only seems logical that he was to take his computer and create landscapes on site, en plein air, a tradition we most associate with the Impressionists. In many ways the animated gifs and still images produced by the artist are an attempt to capture and digitize nature.
Interesting work. Almost like an exercise, an attempt to update the notion of working outside by using digital technology rather than pencils and brushes. It seems to me that the process is more important than the result.
