Artist Peter Root‘s wonderful city sculpture, ‘Plot’ was made with potatoes, 176lbs of them, all cut, sliced and carved using a kitchen knife and a bicycle repair kit. As you can see from the images it’s a very detailed work that includes homes, office blocks, clock towers and places of worship. What I find most interesting about the piece is that it’s made out of an organic material, spuds, and therefore changes over time as it get mouldy, furry, grows roots, dries out, changes colour.

On the project he had this to say:

I chose potatoes because they are available in abundance and are amazing things to sculpt with. They can be chopped, carved, sliced, drawn into, balanced, dried.

Who ever knew? Unfortunately the work is no longer on show but I would have liked to have seen the before and after photos.
