Pepa Prieto‘s paintings are an exploration of relationships and their consequences. The work playful, the brushstrokes loose, with varying texture that are often juxtaposed against formal geometric abstractions. There is much to look at in her paintings, many stories to imagine, to follow, to lose yourself in. Here’s what she has to say in her artistic statement:

My work represents a private world of invented characters and imagined environments.
For me, this is the equivalent of a visual diary where I can freely explore the world of relationships and their consequences. In order to do this, I create circumstances and fictional landscapes that take both the viewer and the inhabitants of my paintings on challenging and diverse journeys. The formal aspects of my work are intuitive and are reflected most clearly in the areas that I paint with a playful, lose gesture. I balance the compositions in my work by combining these painterly areas with more abstract geometrical forms. In my work, I seek to create an inner, personal conversation with the hope of inspiring reflection on the part of the viewer as well.
