Natalie Frank’s Paintings Of Grotesque Figures Are Sexually Charged
Natalie Frank‘s paintings immediately remind me of the work of Francis Bacon and Freud. Like them Frank makes you feel the flesh moving as you watch the bodies writhing in swathes of thick paint, sexually charged, grotesque even, her figures constantly in motion imbued with a sense of both violence and vulnerability.
It’s mature work and you certainly wouldn’t think she’s only 32 years old. Extraordinary. The carnivalesque vision of humanity she’s able to capture on the canvas is overwhelming, so visceral, immediate. Her new show, ‘The Governed and the Governors’, – a series exploring feminine rituals – is currently on at Fredericks & Freiser, 536 West 24th Street, New York. Shame I won’t be able to see it. If you can you should. You have until the 3rd November, 2012.
