Murat Palta Has Combined Oriental Miniatures With Classic Film Scenes And They’re Fantastic

Turkish illustrator, Murat Palta, has designed these beautiful illustrations that mix the visual style of oriental miniature paintings with the themes of contemporary Western film. After recieving a positive response from his first illustration, ‘Star Wars’, Murat went on to recreate A Clockwork Orange, Scarface, Inception, Kill Bill and more.
Here’s what he has to say about his project:
It all started 2 years ago with an experiment to blend traditional ‘oriental’ (Ottoman) motifs and contemporary ‘western’ cinema. After a positive response to “Ottoman Star Wars”, I decided to take the theme further, and developed more film posters using the same technique.
Combining global with local, traditional with contemporary, and adding a bit of humor made it a fun and rewarding experience for me. According to my marks that I got from the project, the teachers’ opinion were the same.
I really like this series. Well I really like oriental miniatures. And on an aside if you enjoy good literature and miniatures then you should pick up ‘My Name Is Red’ by Orhan Panuk. It’s the Nobel prize winning novelist’s breakthrough novel and is centred around the murder of an miniatuarist illustrator in the 16th Century. A fantastic read. Good for the summer.
