Michael Mapes incredible Photographic Specimens

Artist Michael Mapes has created these elaborate specimen boxes by dissecting photographs and housing the thousands of individual specimens and biographical DNA in the form of such things as hair, finger nails, scent, eye-lashes, fingerprints, food, botanical elements, fabric swatches, make – up, dirt, handwriting samples and breath.

I’m sure they’re much better to see in real life, in a real space as they truly border the lines between photography, installation and science.
