Mario Wagner’s Illustrations Are Dadaist In A Modern World
Mario Wagner’s illustrations, created using collage techniques, are old school in that they wear their modernist influences proudly on their sleeve particularly the Dadaist love of using found images and photo montage. He does everything the old way, the pre digital way; taking images from old magazines and using scissors, glue and acrylic to put together graphic illustrations that speak to our contemporary world. The balance he manages between old techniques and contemporary narratives and pre – occupations is a difficult one but he carries it off with aplomb.
These days his work has been exhibited in a number of international exhibitions, his illustrations commissioned by the likes of Playboy, Cheerios, Sony Playstation, Vanity Fair, Absolut Vodka and The New York Times Magazine.
