Kim ‫Dorland’s ’Red Deer, Alberta’ impasto painting series focuses on his home province in Canada and are vibrant, playful, often hinting at a darkness beneath the boredom of suburban living. His paintings are almost naive in nature, his palette rich, the brushwork fervent and the compositions flat. They are very much a personal series, there is an affection there, a knowledge of place that emanates from each scene and draws you in wanting to know more.

Dorland is currently exhibiting his work until Saturday 27th October at The Angell Gallery, 2 Ossington Avenue, Toronto, Ontario, Canada
