Changing the culture of education

changing education paradigms

Time for another RSA animate. I can’t help myself loving these videos as they are both extraordinarily interesting and extremely well made. This week I thought I’d show you a talk on what its author, Sir Ken Robinson, calls The Education Paradigm – a new model that will fundamentally change the culture of education. The first time I watched this 10 minute talk I was blown away by the possibilities it opened up. Robinson believes in the creative capabilities of all people and, as shown in this video, is deeply unhappy with the model of education we use today, especially the use of standardised examinations in the school system. As he says himself, this system was designed and conceived out of the intellectual culture of the enlightenment and the economic circumstances of the industrial revolution.
