Jean Jullien’s Illustrations Are A Graphic Delight

Jean Jullien‘s illustrations are a graphic delight. His work an eclectic mix of everything from Illustration to photography, video to costumes, installations, to books and posters to clothing. This is simple, honest, in your face design which he uses to strike at the heart of the modern condition. With an astute mind and a sharp eye he revels in making fun of the everyday, the quirks and idiosyncrasies that fill modern life.

In short Jullien’s work is about communication; both the process of relaying information through graphic design and the subjects he tackles such as social behaviours and the relationship between people. Here’s what he has to say about his work:

If something is made of wood, they know what wood is; if paper, they know it’s paper, it’s important when you communicate to do something direct — the simpler [the work] you do, the more people you can communicate with, if you do something that’s too literate, you’re only going to appeal to visual geeks.

You can see Jullien’s current work at the Kemistry Gallery, 43 Charlotte Road, Shoreditch, London until 23rd March, 2012
