Right. In the last few weeks I’ve been posting up work by artists who have unique techniques for making their work. But this one really tops them all. Canadian Artist Steven Spazuk was, at one time, happy enough with traditional drawing techniques and using watercolors and acrylics on canvas. However, in the 1980s he began using an airbrush and soon found himself fascinated by the smooth gradients created by the finely sprayed paint.

Then, in 2001, he came up with this idea – as you do – of exposing a canvas to fire and controlling the imprint of soot left on the surface. What would happen? How would it work? Well you can see the results.

The images above are made up of hundreds of smaller works each the result of a canvas exposed to fire and then gently etched to reveal finers details. Here’s a video about him, his work and the process that he uses…what do you think?
