Performing at festivals, embassies, theatres, cinemas, bookshops, hot springs, rooftops and basement bars, Connolly has built a fanbase as loyal as it is diverse. In fact, this album was funded entirely through an online campaign supported by fans worldwide. He is, at heart, an astonishingly talented storyteller and Brother, The Fight Is Fixed spirals through time from the marshy landscapes of Cork, Ireland to the overspill of the modern metropolis.
Lauded by New York’s Death and Taxes as “being at the head of a new breed of politically engaged eloquent singer-songwriters emerging from New York’s most populous borough”, Cork-born Connolly has crafted a highly regarded niche for himself as one of the leading lights in the New York music scene, curating a variety of music nights each week in the city that never sleeps.
‘I promise your evening will be full of good music, stories, and all around entertainment. Mr. Connolly’s music carries amazing character. Casey Black
Casey Black was born and raised in Nashville, TN, where his dad is an NSAI Hall of Fame country songwriter. Casey began writing and recording songs in his basement at 14, and signed with EMI Music Publishing just 5 years later, making him one of the youngest staff songwriters in Music City.
In 2001, Casey moved to Los Angeles and recorded his first record, Vacations. The record was placed at number 8 on a list of the Top 40 Records of 2004, by Tricia Halloran of LA’s famous KCRW radio station. Its title track was featured on ABC’s Greek.
Now a New Yorker, Casey recorded his forthcoming record, It Shapes Me As It Goes, in a tiny one-room studio in Brooklyn. Already, the video for the first single, The Sarge, was recently featured on The Daily Dish, the popular blog of Atlantic Monthly Magazine. Casey’s most intimate record, It Shapes Me As It Goes is a distillation of all of Black’s signatures: lyrics which casually cut to the bone of subjects like war, boredom, and lust; a conversational, crooning vocal style; and a finger picking he picked up in Nashville. The record is to be released digitally on May 24th: advance physical copies will be available on this tour.

Eat My Noise with Wasps vs Power and Sailor Sam
Eat My Noise
David Duffy and Peter Power have been composing music together since 2002 in various line ups. However upon both completing a masters in composition in 2009 a new direction was taken. One that steered as far from the contemporary masters they had both just been awarded.
Eat My Noise was formed, with one plan in mind; to get beautiful women dance. With this philosophy at its heart Eat My Noise began life as a straight up dance project. Soon both Peter and David’s various influences came into play and their sound began to take shape. Still in its development Eat My Noise plan on releasing their debut ep in April. Until then there’ll be some demo’s and such up on the page, Enjoy!

Drop – d.ie present Agitate The Gravel and Une Pipe in a 20th Anniversary celebration of the release of the Nirvana landmark album, Nevermind
Agitate The Gravel
Formed in early 2010 out of a love for all things pop and a growing dissatisfaction with current musical trends, Agitate the Gravel spent a year building up an electrifying live set before beginning their onslaught on their native Cork scene.
Striking a balance between infectious riffs, celestial harmonies and sonic mayhem they take influence from past masters of many genres, citing Blur, Weezer and My Bloody Valentine as major influences.

Drop-d.ie
Drop-d.ie began in Cork many moons ago as one man with a tune in his head. He did what he had to do, then set about finding others of a like mind to spread the love and do it as only they could. The D has been on a wild ride through the wilds of independent and alternative music, taking in many friends along the way, and losing some as well, but that’s the nature of the beast, and it’s alright when we have you. We started in Cork, we’re proud to call it home, and have our ties to Dublin, so we’re 100pc Irish and put our emphasis on Irish independent music and labels, but our coverage and love of music spans genres and the world.
We’ve been around over six years now, and with a new generation of writers and photographers currently forming the Drop-d collective, in the middle of a new golden age for Irish music and culture, what better time than now to reinvigorate a webzine that’s always been about the music? We relaunch on March 18th with a brand new look and loads of new regular features, alongside the impassioned journalism and eclectic focus the D has become known for, from metal and hardcore to indie and electronica.

Marc O’Reilly + Stephen James Smith
Marc O’Reilly
Marc O’Reilly’s roots may lie in Waterford and France, but his sound rests somewhere between the American-influenced folk blues of Peter Green and contemporaries such as Ray LaMontagne and Gomez.
Musically, Marc reveals himself as an excellent guitarist with fantastic fretwork peppered throughout the album. The songs from his new album, ‘My Friend Marx’ vary from gentle and touching odes to more orchestral affairs, unafraid to push the boundaries of the genre where necessary without losing the essence of a songwriter with his feet firmly in the roots of classic folk blues.

‘Stephen James Smith is a ball of hydrogen gas that should be pumped into every household across the land. He knocks seven shades of shite out of all the usual “birds and bees, whey and cheese” nonsense you find at poetry readings’

The Slackers Symphony supported by Meadhbh Boyd
Due to unforseen circumstances we’ve had a last minute change in line up. Méadhbh Boyd is now playing solo in a support slot to The Slackers Symphony
The Slackers Symphony
Slackers Symphony is an acoustic guitar duo of brothers Ed and James Grannell. They perform songs intended for massive arrangements on two acoustics due to their lack of motivation to get things done. Born and bred in Virginia, US and having attended the same grade school as Dave Grohl theres always a sense of longing for wide open spaces and self loathing. Ed is the main songwriter and singer and James is the lead guitarist, their influences encompass all musical styles and all wrapped up in four minute pop structured tunes. The songs are primarily influenced by writers such as Brian Wilson, Lou Reed, Roy Orbison and Frank Black
‘Verbum’ by Eat My Noise
“Verbum” is an electro acoustic piece composed for choir and electronics. Based on the drawing by M.C Escher, the piece hopes to provide a three dimensional audio realisation of two dimensional art. Through the use of 16 multi point speakers, the mobile audience is invited to roam the space, finding their own connections between the audio and visual.
Trash Culture Jazz + film improvisation
The Dan Walsh Group will provide a live improvised soundtrack to a classic piece of Swedish silent cinema from 1921, Victor Sjostrom’s “The Phantom Carriage”. Originally called “Korkarlen” in Swedish and based on the novel, “Thy Soul Shall Bear Witness!” by Nobel-prize winning Swedish author Selma Lagerlof, the film has been cited as a major influence on generations of vital filmmakers including Ingmar Bergman. The tense and often romantic aesthetic of the film will provide a rich and inspirational stimulus for musical improvisation.
Meadhbh Boyd
Meadhbh draws her influences from contemporary classical music, popular culture, you, the world, ‘the party limbo’, lust, successes and failures, people’s quirks, Louis Andriessen, Michael Nyman, Chilly Gonzales and Steve Reich.
So you wanna see them? (course you do)
Clare-born, Cork-based musician, composer, trad fiddler, teacher and journalist who has turned her attention to making spooky, high-grade experimental pop tunes like “Smelly Defeat”.

Text Message: An Exhibition
Gary Baus has always loved the permanence of writing. When human beings learned to write, they learned how to leave a legacy. The thoughts and emotions of individuals and whole civilizations if saved and protected could now outlast them for thousands of years or perhaps forever.
So much of the way we use writing today is disposable. When utilizing instant messaging or facebook our written conversations seem to disappear into a void. Many of our text messages too will be deleted or lost. Where will the ‘love letter’ texts of the grandparents of the future be if they are to be shared with the following generations?

VARIETY
Cork Glor
Enda Reilly
Like many musicians, Enda’s love of songs & singing goes way back – to primary school days, filling notebooks with songs from school and learning the tin whistle. Unlike most musicians, Enda got his first taste of performance during Christmas visits to Mayo, the county of his parentage. Enda was a “Wren Boy” taking part in a traditional outing by children on St. Stephen’s Day – visiting pubs & local houses in costume & make-up to sing or play a tune on the tin whistle or fiddle. A silly song saw a few pence in the hat – an early lesson that entertainment has its benefits!
Later Enda honed his trad skills on violin and performed at the National Concert Hall, Dublin in secondary school musical groups. Then a Hohner guitar at age 16 “from Santa” (via O’Neill’s on Capel Street, Dublin) started Enda on a lifelong relationship with guitar music. But it was as an active Gaelic footballer at local GAA club Thomas Davis, that Enda made his greatest musical discovery in fellow athlete & neighbour Peter Keogh. Off the pitch the two started a musical collaboration that would unlock a treasure chest of talent, energy and adventure for years to come.

Daphne In The Attic
Daphne in the Attic was formed in 2009 by Marcus O’hAilin and Edward Grannel on the outskirts of Cork.
Their mission was to blend Grunge and Swamp Folk with classical string lines and Rockabilly guitar sounds. The pair knew each other for years and had interests in forming a band but it wasn’t until they met the Folk singer Daphne that they had something to work towards. Their styles differ greatly and many didn’t think that a band would be possible but when they merged their two sounds out came a strange, unique, voodoo magic that is, Daphne in The Attic.
Being a long time on the Cork music scene both had great access to fantastic players who they knew could bring their ideas to life. Their setup varies and is known to include such instruments as fiddle, cello, double bass, accordion, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, drums, vocals and harmonies.
“they are what you get when you put Gomez, a really good bluegrass band and a bucket of acid in a blender.”

Colm Keegan
Colm Keegan continues to write some of the most interesting and powerful poetry in Ireland today. As a performer he is growing in stature as well (both in Dublin and beyond) and he recently cemented that status as All Ireland Slam Poetry champion 2011. His poem “Ireland is” manages to capture the zeitgeist in this country perfectly with his trademark sense of humour, dark truth and lyrical flourishes. It is as telling and topical now as it was then and, if anything, the poem has gotten even better as a piece of writing. This is real poetry that demands to be heard

Fia Rua
Described by Hotpress as “contemporary and timeless” Galway artist Fia Rua’s new album Falling Time might be just what the doctor ordered for these days of uncertainty and change. The album which was released too much acclaim last month offers us a fresh soul full kind of alt- folk that can touch the heart as-well as getting the collective feet tapping. Fia Rua is Eoghan Burke, a man with a very distinctive voice that sings like he means it, with lyrics that vary from tales of heartbreak and loss, to his own unique social commentary. The sound of the album is is hard to categorize, there’s fiddles, guitars and voice, then there’s synths, drums, bodhrans….But it all sits together beautifully, Burke’s vocal never lets you forget who your listening to. Special guest’s on the album include the wonderful Jinx Lennon who’s rant adds yet another dimension to Falling Time.
If there’s a new act that is deserving the nations attention this year its surely Fia Rua.

The Tale of Beetle and Bets by Jennifer Williams
Beetle is 12 years old and is always top of her class. She likes to be the best. At everything.
Bets is an 87 years old and lives around the corner from Beetle. She likes shortbread, tea and her little dog, Molly.
Beetle’s history teacher has asked the class to do a report on any part of local history that interests them and Beetle’s mother suggests an interview with Bets.
This starts off a series of letters between Beetle and Bets about life in the ‘old days’ – when people listened to the wireless, baked their own bread and the toilets were outside. But, what happens to the friendship when Bets’ stories get more and more outrageous, and she doesn’t have the evidence to back them up?
A short-story about growing-up and growing old told through letters, photos and knick-knacks, written and performed by Jenny Williams.
Jennifer Williams is a writer and performer originally from Newcastle, Australia. She completed a BA in 2006 at the University of Sydney, majoring in History and performance studies and an Advanced Diploma in Acting at the Actor’s Centre, Surry Hills (graduated July 2009)
