So what can one say about the anarchic collages of Dennis Busch? Well they’re wild, colourful, raw, with a real DIY aesthetic and are driven by humour and a love of image. None of the work is made with a computer, its all done the old fashioned way; cutting up images and sticking them down.

The subject of his work veers from social critical collage about erotic photography to obscene objects and tipp-ex paintings. He runs his own gallery called Galerie Zum Hochgeklappten Fußnagel – which means Gallery of the fold-up toenail – and runs his own music label, ‘Millions of Brilliant Idiots’. Someone once described him as ‘a brilliant Idiot against all tyranny of style’ and I tend to agree with them.

Here’s what he has to say about his work:

I don’t feel like a “real” artist. I never will become one. I’m a metaphysical bomber, a fool on the hill with a psychedelic black and white rising pyramid in my hands. I started cutting and pasting way back in the late 80’s when i was a “funny” boy looking out for a medium to express myself and escape from dead-end-graveyard-structures of becoming “someone”. I studied art but broke up with it. In my eyes this was the only word I could drop between these silly lines.

Words that describe my artistically free falling intention could be: Art should laugh about itself. And I mean laugh to death.

What do you think of his work? If you like it there’s loads more on his site.
