Anton Marrast‘s illustrations are superb, his line so sure and fluid. Unlike many illustrators his starting point is not a visual one rather it is an interior narrative, an inner state that wells out and creates these strange drawings of cyclopic women and men.

Marrast is, from all accounts, more immersed in the alternative worlds of literature – this series is based on the magic realism of Gabriel García Márquez – than he is in the visual reality of his home city of Moscow. His literate mind makes great use of his artistic hand. It is truly original work; strange, erotic, beautiful.
