Andy Rementer’s Paintings From His ‘I Wish I Knew’ Exhibition Are Larger Than Life Pictures Of New York
Andy Rementer‘s large fun cartoon paintings are colourful works, illustrations even, that are an absolute delight to look at. In his latest series ‘I Wish I Knew’ he uses simple forms and hyper-active colours to give us a larger than life picture of New York.
Rementer’s paintings are odd in that his characters have a melancholic look about them while at the same time being colourful and full of life and although the scenes are full of litter, broken glass and detritus you can’t help but smile and be nostalgic when looking at his pictures. There’s also something strangely old fashioned about his subjects, a 50′s sensibility perhaps? Certainly a time gone by. Or perhaps a time that never was.
You can see Rementer’s new work until the 12th November, 2012 at the Mondo Cane Gallery, 174 Duane St. Tribeca, New York.
