Performance art is interesting in that I think it’s a little like a very old Bible, lots to read, old stories re-enacted, an historical lineage that is very long.
So and so begat so and so and he in turn begat the next but all more or less stemming from the same line of prophets.
Each generation maybe re interpreting in varied changeable ways.
But always there is The Body, the main material, a conduit for these artists.
We Unit One a newly formed group (see footnotes) were heading to Belfast on invitation of B Beyond Northern Ireland to meet up and work together in the newly re furbished Crescent Arts Centre for the day, 16th January.2011.
Having experienced this collaborative interchange before I felt, maybe, a little more positive as to what I could offer and how I could gain knowledge and experience for my own practice. Continue reading »
I have gone beyond wishing for status, grants, establishment, as an artist in this area and am maybe childishly happy that I have found a sort of creative ground that I am slowly feeding into and off and the nourishment is making me grow.
I am not concerned about the public private critique. (Well maybe a wee bit, one needs some praise and some constructive criticism to develop)
I am able, if only in short bursts, to know, “this is what it’s all about…”
By now I have formed a practice which tends to use breathe and the futility of life, the simplicity of being alive and an awareness of its basic profundity, its brevity and nothingness to everythingness.
